How to Board a Plane

Step 1, Find your gate. As soon as you walk throughsecurity, you should see overhead signs pointing the way tovarious gates. Look at your boarding pass to determine whichone is yours, then follow the signs.

Step 2, Look at the information board displayed atyour gate, which should show the flight number, scheduleddeparture time and the time the flight will begin boarding.

Check to see if there are any flight delays; if you see a delaylisted, speak to the gate agent for more information.

Step 3, Prepare your carry-on luggage. Most airlines willallow you to bring two pieces of luggage on board: a personalitem like a purse or laptop bag, and a second item that can beplaced in the planes overhead bins. Condense your luggageinto two bags if you have more than two pieces.

Step 4, Listen for announcements. Keep your MP3 playerturned off and stay off the phone while youre waiting to boardso you dont miss something. Check your boarding pass to seeyour seat number, and look to see if there is a zone numberlisted on the pass.

Step 5, Collect all your luggage when you hear the gateagent announce its time to board your zone or the section ofrows that includes your seat. Hold your boarding pass out asyou get in line to enter the hallway, or jetway, that leads to theplane. The agent might either scan your pass or simply look atit before youre allowed to walk down the hallway.

Step 6, Walk onto the plane and down the aisle. Lookabove the seats to check the row numbers. Once you arrive atyour row, place your larger bag in the overhead compartmentand your smaller bag under the seat in front of you. Sit down, strap on your seat belt and get comfortable for your ride.

Those seats are the most commonly chosen by travelersbecause on a 747, they're the only seats that come in a pair(as opposed to three seats in a row). Couples traveling togetherwould lock those seats up first in economy class becausethey wouldn't have to share their row with anybody. Makessense. What's interesting is that in First Class, it's the exactopposite. The most popular seats are at the very front (1A and1K, both window seats) of the plane. I guess you want to be thefirst of the First in Firsr Class.
