Royal Salute was created by Chivas Brothers in 1953, inspired by the coronation of Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ.

In 1993, 10 years before the 50th anniversary of this historic day, the Royal Salute Master Blender called for the rarest and most precious stocks of Chivas Brothers whiskies, all over 40 years old, to be brought together and married in a single cask for further maturation.

Only two hundred and fifty five deep blue porcelain flagons were crafted to hold his ultimate blend of Scotch whiskies. Each flagon was emblazoned with a plaque of pure gold and silver, heralding its prestigious title “Royal Salute 50 Year Old”, and once filled, was sealed with a gold and silver stopper.

Appropriately, the first of these flagons was presented to Sir Edmund Hillary at a grand ceremony that marked the 50th anniversary of his conquest of Mount Everest, the worlds highest peak.

Each flagon of Royal Salute is handcrafted by the worlds most accomplished master craftsmen, using only the finest materials including gold, silver, porcelain and granite. The same exacting care and attention to detail that goes into making the ultimate whisky goes into creating each and every vessel in which it is presented.
