Kingston is the capital of Jamaica. Kingston is Jamaica’s political， economic and cultural center， with a legendary history. It is located southeast of the island of Jamaica， Kingston， surrounded by the southern harbor， located in the center of the Caribbean， is the world’s most important maritime transportation hub.
Historically， as part of the royal city of Kingston Harbor， it is the headquarters of the Caribbean pirates. Story goes back to the 17th century， here is the European business travel to reach America’s fleet must pass through the land， piracy was rampant， constantly attacking the past business. People trembled with fear. Royal Harbor made Kingston become “the world’s most evil city”.
Now， the shipping industry is well developed. Kingston is not only a major international trade port， but also a major Caribbean transit point for regional trade， the world’s seventh largest deep water port.

The Birth and Development of Kingston 金斯敦市的诞生与发展
The birth of Kingston City is closely related to the Royal Harbor.
In 1692， a magnitude earthquake hit the Royal Harbor， two-thirds of the urban buildings were destroyed， the survivors then moved to Kingston. But the Royal Harbor did not been completely abandoned， in the reconstruction， it became the Royal Navy’s regional headquarters.
In 1703， the Royal Harbor was also affected by the fire， which further accelerated the migration of residents to the city of Kingston， and promoted the further development of the city of Kingston. Soon， it became Jamaica’s trade and commercial center. The population also increased rapidly， and extends north to the St. Andrews area.
In 1713， Kingston District was established. In 1758， the Governor of Jamaica Act， the proposed capital moved from Kingston to Spanish Town. Spanish Town residents were strongly opposed to that. Later Queen of England despite referrals， and finally not approved， then it just be called the Kingston City for “Kingston Town”.
In 1802， it was officially recognized in law as “Kingston”. In 1872， it was officially established as the capital of Jamaica. In 1900， Kingston City， already has 55，000 people， when trade and commerce continue to grow， the financial industry and tourism also began to develop rapidly.
On January 14， 1907， Kingston City suffered a major earthquake， and caused a fire. Many residents began to move to St Andrews area， this trend eventually led to the Kingston and St. Andrew founded the joint area in 1923.
In the late 20th century， Kingston City Economic further development， it’s formed the situation in mining， manufacturing， financial services， transportation， construction， aviation and other industries， it eventually became the major Caribbean political， economic and cultural center.

It is near Kingston Harbor District， established in May 1976， the Port Authority of Jamaica by the Government of Jamaica and jointly owned. In the free zone manufacturing， warehousing， packaging and processing products for export can be exempt from normal tax and customs restrictions. It has played an important role in Jamaica’s economic development.
University of West Indies
The University is located near Kingston and the city of Vienna， with arts， education， medical， library research， natural sciences and social sciences department. It is not only Jamaica， but also for other countries in the West Indies to train specialized personnel. The university-affiliated teaching hospital has a world level， is an important social service agencies in Kingston.
