When You Are Old
Guidance for Reciting
With love one can live even without happiness.
When you are old and gray and full of sleep，
And nodding by the fire，take down this book，
And slowly read，and dream of the soft look，
Your eyes had once，and of their shadows deep；
How many loved your moments of glad grace，
And loved your beauty with love false or true，
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you，
And loved the sorrows of your changing face；
And bending down beside the glowing bars，
Murmur，a little sadly，how love fled，
And paced upon the mountains overhead，
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

有爱，即使没有幸福，一个人也能生存。
当年华已逝，你两鬓斑白，沉沉欲睡，
坐在炉边慢慢打盹，请取下我的这本诗集，
请缓缓读起，如梦一般，你会重温，
你那脉脉眼波，她们是曾经那么的深情和柔美。
多少人曾爱过你容光焕发的楚楚魅力，
爱你的倾城容颜，或是真心，或是做戏，
但只有一个人！他爱的是你圣洁虔诚的心！
当你洗尽铅华，伤逝红颜的老去，他依然深爱你！
炉里的火焰温暖明亮，你轻轻低下头去，
带着淡淡的凄然，为了枯萎熄灭的爱情，喃喃低语，
此时他正在千山万壑之间独自游荡，
在那满天凝视你的繁星后面隐起了脸庞。
注：叶芝，用英语写作的爱尔兰诗人，早年曾参加爱尔兰独立运动，但后来脱离政治运动，专心致力于文学写作。其诗风受布莱克影响较深；后与法国诗派接触，使他的诗又带上了唯美主义和象征主义色彩。叶芝在1923年获得诺贝尔文学奖，是一位对现代诗歌具有重大影响的诗人。叶芝在1889年遇见女演员、爱尔兰独立运动战士MaudGonne，并爱上了她，他曾多次向她求婚，但均遭拒绝，但他终生爱慕着她，为她写下了许多诗，《当你老了》就是其中一首。或许，“有爱，即使没有幸福，一个人也能生存”。
